A comparative study of whole body DWIBS MRI versus bone scan for evaluating skeletal metastases.
BACKGROUND Skeletal metastases in oncology patients are identified by Bone scan and/Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan. But developing countries in the world still lack adequate numbers of these imaging facilities. AIMS Since Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is widely available as compared to bone scan or PET scan; a double blind study was undertaken to see if whole body imaging with MRI...
متن کاملTherapy monitoring of skeletal metastases with whole-body diffusion MRI.
Current methods of assessing tumor response at skeletal sites with metastatic disease use a combination of imaging tests, serum and urine biochemical markers, and symptoms assessment. These methods do not always enable the positive assessment of therapeutic benefit to be made but instead provide an evaluation of progression, which then guides therapy decisions in the clinic. Functional imaging ...
متن کاملComparison of 99mTc-MDP and 99mTc-MIBI whole body scans for diagnosis of widespread skeletal metastases [Persian]
Skeletal metastasis is one of the most important disabling complications of the malignant diseases. As in general, the survival of patients with osteometastatic lesions is relatively long, an early diagnosis can lead to improve the patient’s life, both quantitatively and qualitatively, and prevent exacerbation of the disease and disabling complications. In this study, 22 patients with est...
متن کامل99mTc-MDP whole body bone scan in a case of acute disseminated melioidosis
Melioidosis is a potentially fatal infectious disease occurring predominantly in the tropics, caused by a Gram-negative, motile, rod shaped obligatory aerobic non-spore forming bacillus, Burkholderia pseudomallei. It can produce localised or disseminated disease largely affecting immunocompromised patients. It is a challenge to identify melioidosis early as this disease can manipulate host’s ce...
متن کاملCuboid fracture in a toddler discovered on the whole body bone scan: A case report
This report presents a 3.5-year-old boy who was hospitalized for limping. Medical history and physical exams were not suggestive for any definitive diagnosis. Laboratory and radiographic exams did not support any specific diagnosis either. Subsequently bone scan was performed and increased activity in the ankle due to cuboid fracture was incidentally observed.
